At this point, I'm pretty sure you are aware of how valuable your personal peace is. Some of us even travel thousands of miles just to get a glimpse of peace just to come back home with a sense of horror of 'regularity' of life. This can be challenging for u but easily remedied : did you also know you can have mini-doses of quietness and peaceful space from your own home?
For us women juggling work, relationships, and responsibilities, having a space to return to yourself can be such an instrumental tool to maintain your sanity and operate from a space of love and trust. Even in the smallest homes, creating a dedicated area for mental well-being can bring immense ripple effects to your relationships, work-life balance, and stress management. Here, let me help break it down to how you can create a space that supports your mental health and nurtures your soul.
1. How Making Space Can Create Ripple Effects
Imagine starting your day in a serene corner of your home: the soft glow of a non-toxic soy candle, a comfortable cushion, and the faint scent of essential oils. You sit in stillness, breathing deeply. This seemingly small practice can create profound changes in your life. Isn't it dreamy? A space for you to practice meditation, your pranayama, restorative yoga, simply a blissful space to, be you.
In Relationships
When you ground yourself daily, when you start your day with your space that visually stimulates your mind to be happy and peaceful, you show up more present and patient in your relationships, whether with your partner, children, or colleagues.
At Work/ Running Own Business
A calm, focused start leads to better productivity and decision-making. This one small act of creating a space allows you to be a calmer boss/leader/aspiring women.
In Stress Management
Starting your day in your sacred little space, allows you to create, focus, and create productivity from a space of open heart. And, when stress is catching up on you, there’s always a space of peace waiting just for you to come back to.
This ripple effect starts with a simple act: making space for yourself.

2. Embracing Saucha: Cleanliness and Minimalism
In ashtanga yoga, saucha is one of the Niyamas—guidelines for personal discipline. It emphasizes cleanliness, both in your external surroundings and internal mental state. Cleanliness is not something that is just in your surrounding, but also what's in your mind. It goes beyond by breaking the loop of cluttering your space that distracts you mind to be in a state of 'confusion' and 'distraction' to bring in more clarity and peace from within.
Physical Cleanliness: A clean, uncluttered environment fosters mental clarity. Decluttering your space removes visual clutter and distractions creating a sense of peace.
Minimalism: Instead of filling your space with excess, choose a few meaningful items that inspire you. Think of it as an altar for your mind—a place where simplicity reigns and distractions fade.
Energetic Freshness: Regularly cleanse your space by dusting, wiping surfaces, or even burning sage or incense to reset its energy. Clean out stagnant, toxic energy, allowing new positive energy to flow in.
3. How to Best Use a Small Space with Limited Things
Living in a small home or shared room? Not a problem, this is what I did to create a personal sanctuary:
Repurpose a Corner: All you need is a corner. Lay down a yoga mat or place a cushion as a physical marker of your space.
Go Vertical: Use shelves or wall hooks to store items like a journal, essential oils, or a favorite book, freeing up floor space.
Use Multi-Functional Furniture: A foldable desk or a stool that doubles as a table can maximize your space
Add Sensory Elements: Small biophilic touches like a plant, a candle, or even a textured blanket can transform a simple space into a cozy solo-retreat.
Remember, it’s less about the size of the space and more about the intention behind it.
"there is luxury in simplicity"
4. How to Bring Your Personality Into the Space
Your space should reflect you. Adding personal touches makes it a haven where you feel most at home.
Colors and Textures: Choose a color palette that soothes you. Soft, earthy tones like beige, green, or pastel shades work well. Add textures through rugs, throws, or cushions, if necessary.
Meaningful Decor: Incorporate items that resonate with your journey—photos, a vision board, or even a crystal that holds significance for you. They can act as reminder of who you are meant to be in this lifetime.
Inspiration: Place affirmations, quotes, or a journal nearby for moments of reflection.
Elements of Nature: A small potted plant or flowers can connect you to the earth, grounding your practice. If you are not plant-savvy, then get easy plants like succulents (in case you are a plant-murderer, like me)
Lighting: Use soft, warm lighting like fairy lights or a Himalayan salt lamp to create a calming atmosphere, I absolutely love my essential oil fused candle.
Creating a space for yourself isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention. With the principles of saucha guiding you and your unique personality infusing the space, this corner of your home becomes a sanctuary that brings peace, joy, and balance to your life.
Take a moment today to look around your home. Could you carve out a space for yourself? Begin small, and watch how this simple act lets you exude love and peace to every interaction you face throughout the day, improving your mental health and well-being.
